For Indians, By Indians, Of Indians, these lines could be very fitting to the first Indian Commercial Bank which was fully owned and run by Indians. Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala was the founder. A very staunch Swadeshi patriot he believed “the bank as the property of the nation and national asset”

With over 3500 branches spread across the country Central Bank of India is truly an all India Bank. A great achievement of the bank in recent times has been to be considered among the top 3 nationalised Indian banksĀ  in terms of service by Economic Times.

The bank’s ability to be Swadeshi yet contemporary was displayed way back in 1924 when it opened a special Women’s department to cater to its women clientele.

In 1989 the bank started a subsidiary by the name Central Bank Home finance limited to start the business of housing loans. Today the bank has various loan products under the brand name “cent” including Cent Housing Loan, Cent Mortgage etc.
