The first Indian bank to open a branch outside the country and the first to open a branch in Europe. That’s Bank of India for you. The five cornered blue color star symbolizes over 103 years of Banking knowledge and trend setting in the Indian Banking Sector.
When a group of Bombay (now Mumbai) based businessmen came together on 7th September 1906 to create a private bank, little did they know that in a decade it would become a 3021 branch corporation with 28 branches across the world.
The bank was privately held till 1969 when the Government nationalized it along with 13 other banks. It still stays nationalized. It went public in 1997.
The bank has also had a major role in the development of the capital markets. In 1921 it was Bank of India which handled the clearing functions of the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The bank has a sizeable chunk of its business coming from international branches. It is active in the loans market under the brand name “Star”. Star Mitra Personal Loan, Star Home Loan, Star IPO and Star Mortgage loan are some of its well known products
